Dog Show – Show Ring Rules

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all dogs and handlers, all exhibitors must adhere to the following rules whilst participating in classes within the show ring.
1. General Conduct
All handlers are responsible for the behaviour and welfare of their dog at all times
The judge and stewards’ decisions are final
Any dog deemed unsafe or unsuitable may be asked to leave the ring immediately
2. Dog Eligibility
Only dogs of suitable temperament may enter the ring
Dogs must be under control at all times
No banned breeds may participate
Dogs must be fit, healthy, and not showing signs of illness
3. Leads & Equipment
Dogs must remain on lead at all times
No flexi leads permitted in the ring
Leads must be held securely and not allowed to trail
4. Entering & Leaving the Ring
Dogs must enter the ring one at a time when instructed
Please wait for steward direction before entering
Maintain space from other dogs when entering and exiting
5. Spacing & Interaction
Handlers must maintain appropriate distance between dogs at all times
No on-lead greetings within the ring
Be aware that some dogs require more space
6. Treats & Rewards
Treats are permitted
Handlers must use treats responsibly and maintain distance from other dogs
Do not use food in a way that may cause conflict or distraction to others
7. Behaviour & Safety
Any signs of aggression, excessive stress, or loss of control must be acted on immediately
If directed by a steward or judge, you must remove your dog without delay
Handlers may withdraw their dog at any time
8. Spectators
Spectators must remain outside the ring boundary
Do not allow members of the public to approach or interact with your dog in the ring
9. Fouling
Any fouling in the ring must be cleaned immediately by the handler
Please use designated bins provided on site
10. Welfare First
This is a welfare-led event
The comfort, safety, and emotional wellbeing of dogs takes priority over competition
By entering the ring, you agree to abide by these rules.
Failure to comply may result in removal from the class.
